e) Do you have any other constructive ideas or comments about the structure of the teams.
Note: The female program presently runs recreational leagues in Peewee, Bantam and Midget on the island. The number of players at each division, the skill level of our female players, the other female teams available in south & mid island leagues, and these questionnaires will all factor in determining the choices we make regarding the divisions that we intend to run in the female program for the upcoming year.
Lingo: A carded team is an "A"(REP) team that is 'carded' through Hockey BC which allows the team to compete at the highest level possible in minor hockey generally against other associations of the same size. In female hockey there is only one level of "A" and all teams compete at that level. A competitive team in our program is what we call our REP (or competitive) team that is not carded, but which chooses to run like a carded team, and to play at the highest level the team is capable of.
Note: Sooke MHA’s competitive teams may be given 1 extra early morning practice per week and 1 extra game slot per month. The player’s level of commitment is higher than in recreational hockey and players are expected to attend all practices and games, unless they have a valid reason. Players will be assessed a rep fee to cover the cost of the extra ice. Female competitive teams may play in the boy’s leagues if they do not have a girl’s league to play in or they may be required to play in a girl’s league where they would be required to do additional traveling up island.
5. If we could have competitive teams at your level:
D. Sooke MHA also participates with the SVI Breakers Female program. This program provides girls the opportunity to play hockey at a higher level of skill (competitive team) with other girls from the South Vancouver Island area. All girls are eligible to try out for these teams. If a player makes a SVI team, they would not play in Sooke. Would you like information regarding the Breakers program and what it has to offer?
Yes No
Contact Information (needed if you choose yes)
(NOTE: If SMHA cards a team at Peewee Bantam and/or Midget, then Sooke players at those levels must play in Sooke .)
6. Do you have any positive comments regarding your 2006-2007 Hockey season experience?
7. Do you had any concerns during your 2006-2007 hockey season? .
8. Do you have any concerns regarding your hockey season next year? .
9. Do you have any other comments regarding female hockey program? .
10) What can YOU do to help improve our female program?
There is some discussion taking place about the possibility of forming a south island "Female Minor Hockey Association" separate and apart from the local home associations. What this means is the Breakers A programs as well as south island female recreational programs would all run out of one female only Minor Hockey Association, with the intent to purchase ice from all participating local rec centres. The intent would be that all recreational teams would be formed from players living in the closest proximity and hosted from nearby arenas. 11) Would you be in support of our Sooke Female Program joining with the other south island female organizations to form a "Female MInor Hockey Association" ?
Yes No Undecided Please comment why. No Comments
Do you have any comments regarding a proposal such as this regarding Sooke's participation in an all "Female Minor Hockey Association" ?
NOTE: If Sooke chooses NOT to participate in an all "Female MInor Hockey Association" , their female players would still be eligible to try out for any A teams that this association may card, if Sooke is not carding a team in category.
